Theme track Funktion 2022 – performing arts for children and young people with complex needs.

During Bibu 2022, there will be a number of theme tracks presented and implemented within the festival program. Funktion is one of these with five invited performances and a large number of seminars and workshops.

The aim of Funktion is to inspire colleagues at the Swedish performing arts institutions, independent groups, educators at special needs schools and more, to create art experiences and drama teaching for children and young people with neurodiversities. All artists who are invited to Funktion has for many years worked with and for children and young people with complex needs and they now want to share their experiences.

Funktion has its origins in the project Scen:se which was carried out in 2017-2020 in Gävleborg in collaboration with among others, Hudiksvall Municipality, Folkteatern Gävleborg and Sweden´s National Touring Theatre (Riksteatern). Within the project, one art exhibition and two theatre productions where produced by invited British artists.

As well as an extensive pedagogical methodological work aimed for the teachers at the special needs schools to prepare the students for the art experiences. Dr Gill Brigg led this pedagogical work and is now invited to Bibu and Funktion 2022, where she will run workshops with teachers in special schools throughout Helsingborg. She will also hold a seminar during the festival aimed for performing artists.

Theme track Funktion 2022 is a collaboration between Folkteatern Gävleborg and the project Scen:se and Bibu and is funded by Kulturrådet and Stiftelsen Signatur.
