The white stage
- Svenska ASSITEJ
Which bodies take place on the stage today? Which stories are told and from which perspectives? Can anyone represent anything, and how do we break the white dominance?
The norm of whiteness is prevalent on stage. Still most stories come to live through white bodies. Today growing numbers of people in the audience don’t fall within the normative white category, a reality that demands to be reflected on stage. Will an increased diversity among those who perform also lead to new stories being told, or to old stories being told from new perspectives?
Astrid Assefa moderates a discussion between actors and stage performers who challenge the norm of whiteness.
The seminar is a part of the project Shadowland, arranged by Swedish ASSITEJ and financially supported by Svenska Postkodstiftelsen.
