Research on children's culture strengthens children's status

Bibu and the Center for Child Culture Research began a collaboration already before the 2020 biennial with the aim of strengthening the research's place in bibu. At Bibu 2022, we finally get to present themed track research.

Many children spend several hours a day on culture. Music, literature, TV programs, films and digital media - children's culture can look very different.  At the Center for Child Culture Research (CBK) at Stockholm University, work is done daily to research, educate and disseminate knowledge about child culture. The center wants to promote a cultural life that makes children grow and take their place, both in culture and in society. Children's culture is a broad concept that includes everything from graffiti painting and computer games to theater and dance performances. The purpose of CBK's activities is to work for knowledge development in the interdisciplinary area of ​​children's culture. The center has existed for more than 40 years and Moa Wester, who is administrative director of studies at CBK and responsible for the collaboration with Bibu, describes a complex but important research area.

- Bibu manifests the importance of children's culture and is an appreciated event in the industry. The cultural world is hard for everyone to work in. But those who work with children's culture often have to work the hardest of all. Visiting Bibu and taking part in the fantastic performing arts for children and young people that are created in our country is extremely inspiring, says Moa Wester.

A biennial that puts performing arts for children on the map is completely in line with CBK's activities. During this year's Bibu festival in Helsingborg, CBK is therefore a proud organizer of five program items. The focus will largely be on the conditions for children's culture and on research on children's experiences and experiences of performing arts.
