prickar bibu

The artists behind three performances chosen by the jury for bibu.se 2016 have agreed to sit down over breakfast with a small audience to talk about who they are and what they create. A unique opportunity to get to know the artist behind the performance.

Ögonblicksteatern May 19th

Ögonblicksteatern is a professional independent theatre company, founded in 1974, with subsidy from the municipality, the region, The Swedish Arts Council and from varied foundations. Our aim is to make the stage mirror the reality and we do this by allowing different types of bodies and stories on the stage. We educate people with disabilities in dramatic art and we currently work with an integrated ensemble (i.e. both people with and without disabilities). Today our area of competence, apart from theatre and dramatic art, are accessibility, normative power systems and democratic rights. Ögonblicksteatern create theatre to make norms visible and questioned. To make the theatre accessible, we must examine the world around us and our way of giving it form.

Teater Pero May 20th

Pero Theatre was founded in 1983 and own two stages in Stockholm city. Their work is based on mime, together with music and dialogue, and they perform for young people all over Sweden. Several of Pero Theatre’s productions have been translated into English and toured Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and Australia. Performing for a young audience takes a special kind of sensitivity and it is the hallmark of the actors at Pero Theatre.

Peter Engkvist , the Artistic Director, has directed more than 100 theatre plays for different theatre companies in Sweden, Finland and Iceland. His performances have been on tour in more than 17 countries and he has also made workshops for actors and directors around the world.

-As a kid, I wanted to become a professional hockey player. One day I happened to see a theater play and suddenly I found myself educated in mime. After a while I left the stage to watch actors working thinking, what could be different?  I wanted to make theatre that was more than just talking heads. I founded Pero Theatre together with Roger Westberg, and we created a place for theatre without borders, where the body language is equal to spoken words. As an actor I wanted a director who took my ideas seriously so I became a director working with devising as a method.

I will also tell you a story about why the street kids in Kolkata one day couldn’t remember their dreams.
