Six drummers på Operaverkstan
- Operaverkstan
Where does music begin, and where does it end? What does silence sound like? What do you hear?
Autumn 2014 Malmö Opera´s laboratory Operaverkstan invited music collective Six drummers to their venue. The goal was to, together with Operaverkstan and their audience, experiment with a live version of their world known short film “music for one apartment and six drummers”.
Six drummers concept is to elaborate with what sound and noise could be. The theme was presented at first in their short film from 2001, and later on developed in the full-length movie “Sound of noise”. Operaverkstan has from the start in 2003 experimented with the different forms of opera: with new experimental music as well as “the classics”. They examine what opera really is and how to perform it.
Six drummers on Operaverkstan resulted in an interactive show/workshop in three parts. The first was a live version of the part “Kitchen” from “music from one apartment and six drummers”, the second was a workshop experimenting with sound and the last part was an accounting of what has been discovered during part two. Regardless of age they meet the same excitement and engagement from the audience.
From 10 years
Tha artistic form in Six Drummers is recognized as a performance from the creators Jahanns Stjärne Nilssons and Ola Simonssons films – an enlightening of the ordinary and with a playful precision in details and rythmics. In different stations the children are able to create own sounds and to build instruments. The scientific touch and exploring way of creating the ensemble is enforcing this feeling by white laboratory frocks and percistent seriousness in a very secret climate. What stays with the audience is a feeling of that everything is possible, that poetry and music are present in even the gloomiest of days.
