Portraying racism and structural racism for the young audience
- Svenska ASSITEJ
Are stories about xenophobia and structural racism part of today’s performance art for children and the young? How are these issues depicted? Can theatre influence and affect young people’s knowledge and way of thinking about our multicultural society?
How does theatre process the subject of racism, and how are present issues about xenophobia, migration and a culturally diverse society dealt with on stage? Which obstacles might stand in the way for the depiction of those issues? Is there a difference between Sweden and Germany in how these questions are addressed?
Artistic directors from Sweden and Germany discuss their experiences, moderated by Marika Lagercranz, actress and previous Counsellor for Cultural Affairs at the Swedish embassy in Berlin.
The seminar is a part of the project Shadowland, arranged by Swedish ASSITEJ and financially supported by Svenska Postkodstiftelsen.
