In an abondoned store, a forgotten space which we don not want to know about is one day 4 odd figures presented to us. They who was not invited to the part, they who are odd and peculiar, they who are ugly as troll. With playfulness, sadness and longing after belonging Regionteater Väst are painting a picture asking the question about who are our society’s trolls – the odd ones – and who are monitoring them and what they need to do to fit in.
Welcome to the verge of the community. To the far out places. To the trolls. Those who don’t fit in, can’t afford or are too apart. Those who never have family activities, soccer tournaments, birthday parties or cosy Fridays. Those who need to be readjusted and stop molesting.
Here, some outcasts are in the making of a performance for children when they are reminded of The Others. Those who lie in fluffy corner sofas, cosying in freshly washed one-pieces, watching ”Who wants to be a millionaire?” on the new 75 inch 3D TV. Satisfying themselves with luxury taco pizza and reaching for the candy bowl.
”Troll i utkanten av samhället” is an unethical and moral adventure about in-groups and out-groups, where the audience are involved from the very beginning. Knives are thrown, trolls are being disclosed. But above all people redress. There will be comforting, playing and birthday parties for those who have never been celebrated before.
”Troll i utkanten av samhället” was awarded The political performance of the year at Scenkonstgalan in Gothenburg in December 2015. The performance is the result of a devised project, which has challenged the traditional professional roles of theatre and is being presented by two actors and two technicians.
